Truss Frequently Asked Questions

What type of truss do I need?

The right truss depends on what you are building and how it will be used. F34 square box truss is commonly used for larger structures and configurations where greater rigidity is needed. F32 I-beam truss works well for many lighting, display and event applications, while F31 single-tube truss is commonly used for lighter-duty decorative and display setups.

What is the difference between F34, F32 and F31 truss?

F34 is a four-chord square box truss, F32 is a two-chord I-beam or ladder-style truss, and F31 is a single-tube truss. Each style is designed for different types of event, lighting and display applications. You can compare all three in our Truss Components section.

Should I buy a complete truss kit or individual truss components?

Choose a complete truss kit when you want a preconfigured setup with the major components already selected. Individual components are a better choice when you are expanding an existing system, replacing a section or building a custom configuration. Browse Truss Kits or shop individual Truss Components.

Can I build a custom truss configuration?

Yes. Straight sections, corners, junction blocks, bases and other compatible components can be combined to create many different configurations. For larger or more complex projects, browse our Custom Truss Builders or contact StageDrop for help identifying the pieces you need.

Is StageDrop truss compatible with Global Truss and DuraTruss?

All of the F31, F32 and F34 truss products sold by StageDrop are designed to be compatible with corresponding Global Truss and DuraTruss systems. Compatibility can vary by product and connection type, so check the individual product specifications or contact StageDrop before combining components from different manufacturers.

What can event truss be used for?

Event truss is commonly used for stage lighting, concerts, trade show booths, DJ setups, displays, signage and event structures. Different truss styles and configurations are suited to different applications, so the intended use should be considered before selecting components.

Do truss sections include connecting hardware?

Many truss sections include or use compatible conical connecting hardware, but included hardware varies by product. Check the individual product listing to see exactly what is included. Replacement couplers, pins, clips, tools and other hardware are available in Truss Storage & Accessories.

How do I know how much weight a truss can support?

Truss capacity depends on the specific truss series, span, support configuration and loading method. Always use the manufacturer's load tables and specifications for the exact truss being used rather than relying on a general weight rating. Suspended, overhead or load-bearing installations should follow proper engineering, rigging practices and applicable safety requirements.

Can I use truss outdoors?

Some truss products can be used for outdoor event applications, but outdoor installations introduce additional considerations including wind, weather, anchoring, ballast and structural loading. The complete structure and expected conditions should be evaluated, rather than assuming that the truss itself makes an outdoor setup suitable.

Does StageDrop sell truss storage and accessories?

Yes. StageDrop carries truss storage and transport products along with truss accessories including connectors, mounting hardware, shelves, cable-management products and other items used to complete or organize a truss setup.

Can StageDrop help me figure out what truss pieces I need?

Yes. If you know the approximate size, shape and intended use of your setup, StageDrop can help you identify appropriate kits or components and determine what additional pieces may be needed. Call 1-800-887-8243 or request a quote for help with a complete configuration.
